Sanjiang Travel Guide
Sanjiang (Chinese: 三江; pinyin: SanJiang), as a county belonging to Liuzhou City in Guangxi Autonomous Region, located at the joint area of Guangxi, Guizhou and Hunan Provinces, 7 hours northwest of Gulin City by car, 8.5 hours from Yangshuo County by car. Sangjiang has many minorities, Dong, Han, Zhuang, Miao, Yao, Manchu, Hui, Maonan, Gelao and Yi, but mainly consisted by Dong Ethnic Tribe. As one of the five Dong minority autonomous counties in China, Sanjiang has the largest population of the Dong people in China. Therefore, Sanjiang is famous for the Dong people's distinctive architecture – the drum tower and the Wind and Rain Bridge.

Sanjiang is surrounded by mountains with average elevation of 80 meters-100 meters, with a subtropical humid monsoon climate, annual average temperature of 17-19 C, enough sunshine every year.
Local highlights in Sanjiang
Local highlights in Sanjiang are the building of the Dong nationality, March the third Festival, Fireworks and Firecrackers Festival, as well as the Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge. For the neat, indigo-clad Dong themselves, people renowned for their wooden houses, Drum Towers and bridges, these high-quality building technology in the Dong villages are spectacular and exquisite. At least, each Dong village has one drum tower, some have 2 more. Usually the drum hanging on the tower is made of cow skin, used for calling people before a meeting or for asking for help when accidents happen. In Mapang Village, about 16 miles away from Sanjiang county, the Mapang Drum Tower is a typical. The entire structure is joined together with redwood, without a single iron nail. It is said that the Dong architect drew the blueprint with only a carpenter's square and a bamboo marker.
Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge
The most well-known in Sanjiang is Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge, which is located in the Chengyang Village, also named Linxi Wind and Rain Bridge due to the bridge spans the Linxi River.Wind and Rain Bridge was built in 1916 and was damaged by floods before, now, it is well-preserved and very steady still.
